Festivals
The Khasis, Jaintias and Garos of Meghalaya celebrate several festivals which are directly and indirectly connected with religion. They are full of joy and happiness which is expressed outwardly in the form of dance, feast and worship.
Shad Nongkrem
Shad Nongkrem is the most significant celebration of the Khasi tribe. It is a five-day celebration held starting November to offer thanksgiving for a good harvest. The celebration starts with the sacrifice of a goat and the unique dance performed by the members Hima Khyrim which allows only virgin girls to dance in the traditional attire.
Ranikor Festival
The Ranikor Festival is one of the beach festivals of Meghalaya that is organized on the picturesque Ranikor Beach in the month of February. The two days festivities display the rich cultural diversity through music and dance. Adventurous sports like beach soccer, volleyball, boat rides, trekking, archery competition, kite flying and swimming are few of the games that attract tourists from all around.
Wangala
Wangala is a three-day harvest festival that is celebrated in the month of November by the Garo tribe. One of the specialties of this festival is the use of 100 drums. This festival is celebrated to thank Misi Saljong (The Sun God) for blessing the region with a good harvest.
Behdeinkhlam
One of Meghalaya's most colorful religious festivals, Behdeinkhlam, is celebrated for three days during July at Jowai. Each locality prepares a decorative tower-like structure called a rath. These are carried by 30 to 40 strong people to a small lake for immersion.

Cuisines
Meghalayan cuisine is the local cuisine of the Indian state of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is home to three Mongoloid tribes; it has a unique cuisine, different from the other Seven Sister States of northeast India.
The staple food of the people is rice with spicy meat and fish preparations. They rear goats, pigs, fowl, ducks and cows and relish their meat.
Jadoh (Non - Vegetarian)
Jadoh is a laboriously made dish made with rice and meat. The rice is sauteed in pork fat and served with pork or chicken
Pumaloi (Vegetarian)
Pumaloi is a special powdered rice cake and is a very favorite dish of the Khasi people. The Pumaloi rice when teamed with other spicy food items.
Dohkhlieh (Non - Vegetarian)
Dohkhlieh is a traditional pork salad of Meghalaya. Authentically it is prepared with a pig’s head and brain.
Tungrymbai (Vegetarian)
Tungrymbai is a fermented soy dish that exhibits a unique flavor and texture which is exclusively made by the Khasi.
Nakham Bitchi (Non - Vegetarian)
Nakham Bitchi is a delicious soup that is consumed as an appetizer or taken mainly after a heavy spicy meal.
Bamboo Shoots (Vegetarian)
Stir-fry vegetables with bamboo shoots are a must-try in Meghalaya.
Dessets
